Gynecology Q & A

Yearly gynecology exams are important for early detection of cervical and ovarian cancer, breast screening, STI screening and contraception. We recommend pelvic exams

starting at age 21 or prior to becoming sexually acitve- whichever one comes first, and yearly thereafter.

During a routine exam the provider will address any concerns and then perform a pelvic and breast exam. A pap smear will be done if needed based on ACOG guidelines. If medically necessary you will have screening labs done as well.

A pap test is a screening test for cervical cancer. Depending on your age we may do a traditional pap smear or an HPV test.

The Pap test (or Pap smear)  is a method of examining the cells from the cervix and it looks for precancers, cell changes on the cervix that might become  cancer if they are not treated appropriately.  The HPV test looks for the HPV virus .Infection with HPV is the number one risk factor for cervical cancer and the cell changes we see in abnormal pap test .

"...I by chance spoke to a complete stranger who raved about Dr. Kasparek. I made the appointment and am very pleased. So much so I brought my teenage daughter for her first exam."
