WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT YOUR GYNECOLOGIST EVERY YEAR

Coming in once a year for your checkup is vitally important to your health.

While we know that these annual gynecological visits aren’t the highlight of your year these visits are not to be forgotten or ignored.

By coming in to see our Alpharetta, GA OBGYNs--Dr. Dori Kasparek, Dr. Supriya Rao and Dr. LaQuita Martinez--once a year, you could prevent serious health issues from affecting you, and we can detect issues early on when they are much easier to treat.

While one of our Alpharetta gynecologists may have told you that you only need to get a Pap test every couple of years, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t still be coming in once a year. While the Pap test is meant to find any abnormal cervical cells that could lead to cancer, this isn’t the only reason you should come into our office.

During these annual exams there are a lot of screenings we do for preventive health care, depending on your age and other risk factors. One of the most common things our doctors perform during your exam is a breast and pelvic exam, which is able to detect cancer and other issues. It’s also important that you perform your own thorough self-breast exam every month, and during your visit we can show you how to perform a proper breast exam on yourself.

Also, for women who are sexually active and in their teens and twenties, coming in for routine gynecological visits can also mean getting screened for STDs like gonorrhea and chlamydia. Many people have these STDs but don’t experience symptoms. If left untreated these diseases can cause serious health complications like infertility.

Other factors we can address during your visit include sexual discomfort or dysfunction, fertility treatments, birth control, bladder disease and menopausal issues. We are here to help in any way possible so never be afraid to ask us questions.
